BIO

Dr. Lo-An Lin, the distinguished First Prize and Baroque Prize laureate at the Eleventh Gurwitz International Piano Competition  (formerly named as the San Antonio International Piano Competition), was born in Taipei, Taiwan. Recognized as a pianist of "brilliance" and "thoughtfulness" by the San Antonio Express, Lin has graced stages across the United States and internationally. Notably, she recently marked her debut recital at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall as the recipient of the Lowry Award at the Eastman School of Music.

Highlights of her solo performances span prestigious venues, including the Seoul National Arts Center in Korea, National Recital Hall and Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, Steinway Hall in New York City, and the iconic Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Lin has also showcased her artistry as a soloist with orchestras such as the San Antonio Symphony, Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Orchestra in Australia, Glenn Gould School Orchestra in Canada, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Orchestra, Suzhou National Orchestra in China, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra in China, and the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taipei.

Dr. Lin's stellar career includes top prizes and accolades from numerous international and national piano competitions. Noteworthy among them are the First Prize and Baroque Performance Prize at the San Antonio International Piano Competition, First Prize at the collegiate division of MTNA Piano Competition in California, First Prize at the National MTNA Senior division competition, First Prize at the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition in Australia (where she also received the best concerto prize, best Australian work prize, and People's Choice award), First Prize at the Viardo International Piano Competition Junior Division, and First Prize at the Yamaha National Piano Competition in Taiwan. Her achievements also encompass top honors at the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, the Lennox Young Artist Piano Competition, the Corpus Christi International Concerto Competition, and the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Piano Competition.

A fervent educator, Dr. Lin earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a major in Piano Performance and a minor in Piano Pedagogy at the Eastman School of Music. During her doctoral study, she served as a teaching assistant for the class piano program and a studio assistant for esteemed piano pedagogues Nelita True and Tony Caramia. She has also taught as a private and group lesson instructor at the Eastman Community Music School, as a secondary piano lesson instructor at Yale School of Music, and as a lecturer at the Nazareth School of Music. Dr. Lin's influence extends to colleges and universities across America, where she has been invited to give recitals and masterclasses, such as Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, East Tennessee State University, Denison University, University of Alabama, Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan, Beijing Normal University & Hong Kong Baptist University United International College in China, Northwest Minzu University in China, and the San Francisco Conservatory. She was also invited to give virtual masterclasses at the Weber State University, University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, and the Piano League. Furthermore, she has also been invited to teach at the Euro Arts Festival and Orbifold Music Festival.

Lin's dedication to education is reflected in the success of her students, who have achieved victories in competitions globally, including the Liszt Memorial Prize International Piano Open Competition, Hsinghai Cup National Piano Competition in China, London Young Musician Competition, Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition, Pre-election of Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children, Starlight Cup Competition, Steinway Piano Competition (East China division), Golden Bauhinia International Competition, the Asia International Music Competition, Kawai Asia Piano Competition, and Shanghai International Piano Competition.

 

As an avid chamber musician, Lin has graced festivals like the Cactus Pear Music Festival and collaborated with the Calder Quartet in the Piano Texas Music Festival, as well as performed with many famous musicians in different ensembles. She has also held positions as a collaborative pianist at Nazareth College and within the Pittsford School district.

Completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music in 2019, Lin also holds a Master of Music degree, studying under Dr. Nelita True. During her study at the Yale School of Music, Lin represented the piano department twice in performances at the Kennedy Center and Steinway Hall. Lin graduated with an Artist Diploma at Yale in 2014 as the recipient of the George W. Miles Scholarship, studying with world-renown pianist Mr. Hung-Kuan Chen. Lin received her  Bachelor of Music degree under Professor Yoshikazu Nagai at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned the Outstanding Achievement in Piano award. She also attended the Interlochen Arts Academy for her high school education.

Currently on the roster of OPUS Music Management in Taiwan, Dr. Lo-An Lin serves as an Assistant Professor at the Soochow University School of Music in Suzhou, China. Her multifaceted career encompasses performance, education, and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of musical talents.
